Event Location: 1788 Kennison Road, Westfield Vermont

Ten Years ago, The Holdridge family of Westfield began planting black walnuts in a 5-acre pasture near their home. They now have about 1,000 in the ground at two locations...varying in age from 10 years to 1 year.

On Saturday, April 22nd at 2PM, Annie and David Holdridge will be on site and prepared to discuss the benefits and the challenges of planting black walnuts in Westfield--for veneer, saw logs or nuts.

The workshop will cover planting, nourishing, pruning, disease and damage impact and marketing. The purpose is to increase awareness of the threats and opportunities for black walnuts. Participants will gain experience in planting and pruning of black walnuts at the Holdridge Family plantation.

They will be joined by Jared Nunery, the Orleans County Forester, for the Vermont Dept. of Forests, Parks & Recreation who has provided counsel and support over the last few years and the UVM-Extension Master Gardener NEK Chapter will provide support & handouts.

We anticipate about an hour and half for the event. Free 2-year-old black walnut slips for planting will be donated to participants. Please follow signage just west of the intersection of Kennison Road and Forest Haven Road for parking.
