GIS Mapping

GIS Mapping or Geographic Information Systems use the computer to tie databases or tables of information to locations on the land that facilitate better understanding and assist in natural resource management. Below are links to GIS data and information.

Maps can be a great tool to analyze Natural Resource Conservation issues and convey solutions. They can be used for resource management and planning and for a myriad of land uses including farming, forestry, and recreation for many goals such as conservation, preservation or responsible development.

Digital Orthophotography as well as paper orthophotos can be obtained from the Vermont Mapping Program.

A multitude of free and low cost mapping data can be found at the Vermont Geographic Information System web site including boundaries, transportation, natural resources, topograhic data as well as other resources and links: www.vcgi.org. Also information on ordering a CD of the Digital Soils for the whole state can be found there.

ESRI has GIS software including the free ArcExplorer that can be downloaded from their site.

The District uses GIS Maps in their Nutrient Management Plans: Nutrient Management Maps
