Mapping
Maps can be a great tool to analyze Natural Resource Conservation issues and convey solutions. They can be used for resource management and planning and for a myriad of land uses including farming, forestry, and recreation for many goals such as conservation, preservation or responsible development. Maps can be on paper on the computer locally or on the web.
In the District office available from NRCS are paper and scanned soil maps and soil description sheets. The District also has available the Interim Soil Survey that collates soil descriptions and tables for all of Windsor County.
GIS Mapping or Geographic Information Systems use the computer to tie databases or tables of information to locations on the land that facilitate better understanding and assist in natural resource management. The GIS link has more information and links.
There are many resources for viewing and making maps on the Web. Some descriptions and links are on the Web Maps page.
