The B.L.U.E. staff collaborated with the Newbury Elementary School SPLASH Summer Program during the summer months. During August 2008, field trip opportunities were available to Newbury Elementary School children participating in the SPLASH program.

The first field trip was held at the Al-lens Farm, where children were exposed to the daily activities that occur on a local organic dairy farm. The second field trip encompassed a walking tour of a portion of the Wells River Watershed along the Cross Vermont and Boltonville Nature Trails. Various stops along the Trails included plant and animal species identification as well as a historical perspective of how the land has changed since the Wells River-Montpelier Railroad ran through this area of the Watershed. During both field trips, children were presented examples of how human activities impact the working landscape of the Watershed. From the looks of it, a good day was had by all!
