This implementation of three check dams in The Williston Hills neighborhood is being executed by a crew of high-schoolers from Mt. Mansfield High School. The crew is working under the supervision of the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC). This installation is one portion of a three part urban conservation project in Williston Hills that will ultimately reduce the sediment load entering nearby Allen Brook. The check-dams will help to slow the storm water runoff laden with sediment and other hazardous by-products. Non-point source pollution is one of the greatest threats to the vitality of the Winooski River Basin. Stay tuned for further updates and photos of the completed check dams. |
