of internships that have been available in the past, some job descriptions
follow.
Our Conservation District offers both paying and non-paying internship opportunities
in a variety of broad-based disciplines.
- GIS support: seeking experience with spatial analysis to calculate
acres of prime agricultural land, acres of corn, HEL, etc. in a sub
watershed.
- GIS support: Calculate miles of unbuffered streams and average distance
from corn fields to stream.
- Field Work: Leading volunteers through tree planting projects in
the Browns River Watershed occuring in May
- Field Work: Collect cover crop and soil and water quality data to
measure the effectiveness of cover cropping in the Mad River and greater
Winooski River watersheds.
- Grant Writing: Grant writing for new cover cropping activities in
the White River Watershed
- Education/Outreach: Rain Garden Lesson Plan
- Education/Outreach: Workshop Coordinator
- Project Development: Utilize existing stream geomorphic assessment
data to assist in developing riparian restoration projects in the
Browns River Watershed.

Job Description
Job Title: Field Work and GIS Assistant
Location: Williston or Berlin, Vermont
Time Period: Flexible
Hours: Flexible
Pay: $500 stipend granted when tasks and deliverables have
been achieved and approved. Longer internships and additional
stipend possible based on interest and performance.
Summary
of Position:
Assist in the development of GIS land use layers for the riparian
and agricultural areas of the Winooski watershed. Help to collect
soil and water quality data in the Mad River watershed; and recruit
volunteers for tree planting project in the Browns River watershed. A subset of duties and responsibilities may be negotiated based
on abilities and interest.
Duties
and Responsibilities:
- Spatial analyze acres of prime agricultural land and tillable
acreage in corn production within Winooski subwatersheds.
- Potential digitizing of orthophotography with some ground
truthing
- Calculate miles of unbuffered streams and distances from
cornfields to surface water.
- Collect cover crop, soil, and water quality data to determine
the effectiveness of a cover cropping demonstration in the Mad
River and greater Winooski River watersheds.
- Provide staff support for our annual Tree Sale Event
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers for a variety of WNRCD
activities including our Conservation Tree Sale and forested
riparian buffer planting project in the Browns River watershed.
- Weekly progress reports due to supervisor every Friday.
Knowledge,

Administrative Assistant Internship Job Description
Job Title: Natural Resource Conservation Administrative Assistant
Location: Williston or Berlin, Vermont

Summary
of Position:
Provide assistance with design, coordination, and administration
of new natural resource conservation projects in the Winooski
River watershed. New conservation projects may relate to forestry,
riparian restoration, stormwater mitigation, and/or environmental
education. This task will likely require grant writing, research,
and networking. A subset of duties and responsibilities may
be negotiated based on abilities and interest.

and Responsibilities:
- Research, write and assist in administration of project grants
- Coordinate activities and partner's participation on new
conservation project(s)
- Create outreach materials and activities (brochures, workshops,
promotional events, etc.) to promote new conservation project(s)
- Provide staff support for our annual Tree Sale Event
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers for a variety of WNRCD
activities including our Conservation Tree Sale and forested
riparian buffer planting project in the Browns River watershed.
- Weekly progress reports due to supervisor every Friday.

Summary
of Position:
Assist in the creation and development of educational and outreach materials
including lesson plans and brochures. Help to recruit volunteers and members;
develop fundraising activities; and identify potential promotional events. A subset of duties and responsibilities may be negotiated based on abilities
and interest.
Duties
and Responsibilities:
- Develop a lesson plan for K-12 students related to rain gardens.
- Design signs, displays, brochures, and fliers for a variety
of WNRCD activities.
- Coordinate a membership drive.
- Seek promotional community events such as garden shows and
farmers markets to advertise our services.
- Provide staff support for our annual Tree Sale Event
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers for a variety of WNRCD
activities including our Conservation Tree Sale and forested
riparian buffer planting project in the Browns River watershed.
- Weekly progress reports due to supervisor every Friday.
