Grant Proposal Writing

Rainwater Harvesting System The District strived to implement Vermont’s First Rainwater Harvesting System in 2007. (http://www.rainwaterrecovery.com/)  Research appropriate funding sources and write grant proposals to take this project off the drawing board in 2008.
Analytical Services Partnerships The District has several projects slated for the 2008 field season surrounding citizen monitoring programs that will require partnerships with stream health analysis laboratories.  Help springboard these unique learning opportunities for residents of the watershed by getting the grant that will seal the deal.
Equipment Staying abreast of the technological resources required to succeed as environmental professionals is a challenge for many grassroots non-profits.  Help the District catch up to the curve by seeking funds for the purchase of the following equipment:
  • Laptop
  • Computer Software:
    • In Design: for graphic design work
    • Adobe Professional: for creating interactive applications online
  • Projector for PowerPoint presentations
  • USB Thumb drives

Art & Science of Rain Barrels

Project Goal

This project will have area students in science and art classes create scientifically sound informational rain barrel brochures and paint nature designs on rain barrels which are then distributed to homes in impaired water runoff areas.

Science Classrooms Science students will be charged with developing the informational brochure that will accompany the rain barrel to its new home.  Be present in the classroom to guide and assist the students.
Art Classrooms Art students are responsible for bringing these barrels from bland to beautiful by painting them with scenes of nature and tranquility.  Inspire the students to dream big and paint bold.

Stormwater Projects

Storm Scouts When it rains it pours.  Stick it out in the elements to identify problem areas in the Allen Brook watershed that will trigger future conservation projects.
Capture the Moment Get footage of installed stormwater treatment systems and low-impact development designs during heavy downpours.  A picture is worth 1,000 words.
  • Williston Hills – large-scale erosion mitigation project
  • Oak Hill – stream stabilization
  • Dorset Street – large-scale stormwater detention facility
  • Rain Gardens – small scale bioretention systems
  • Farrell Park – subsurface-flow gravel wetland
