Portable Skidder Bridge Rentals
Natural Resources Conservation Districts are offering affordable portable skidder bridge rentals across the state.
What is a Skidder Bridge?
Skidder Bridges are portable structures that allow forestry equipment to safely cross streams during logging operations. These bridges minimize soil disturbance and protect aquatic habitats. NRCD skidder bridges are 20′ long three panel Hemlock bridges made up of panels that are 10″ thick and 4″ wide and use 6 threaded rods with log cabin screws in between making them more durable.
Benefits of Use
The use of skidder bridges:
1. reduces sediment in waterways
2. protects aquatic habitats
3. maintains productivity for loggers
They enable loggers to access timber harvesting sites they might not otherwise be able to due to wet conditions or sensitive terrain. Without these bridges, loggers would be forced to use more harmful alternatives, which could lead to damaging impacts on the forest’s health and negative impacts on water quality. By using skidder bridges in their operations, loggers are able to meet the State of Vermont’s acceptable management practices while maintaining their ability to harvest timber.
