Vermont Rain Garden Manual: Gardening to Absorb the Storm
The Vermont Rain Garden Manual: Gardening to Absorb the Storm and rain garden plant list are now available for anyone who is interested in protecting our local rivers and lakes through gardening.
This full color Manual includes step-by-step instructions on rain garden design and installation; five creative planting plans; information about curb-cut rain gardens (perfect for urban streetscapes); a rain garden plant list (including 150 plants suitable for Vermont rain gardens), and an explanation of how rain gardens are compatible with the Vermont Stormwater Management Manual.
The Rain Garden page contains instructions for viewing and downloading the manual and plant list. You can also purchase printed manuals, in full color, for $5.00 each.

HELP! The District needs volunteers to:
- write grant proposals for implementing Vermont’s First Rainwater Harvesting System, to set up partnerships between citizen monitoring programs and stream health laboratories, and to install interpretative plaques at current rain gardens
- help students in classrooms to write a rain barrel brochure, paint, and distribute rain barrels
- introduce rain garden lessons to area schools
- work on storm water projects by identifying problem areas in the Allen Brook watershed and by filming installed storm water systems and low-impact development designs during heavy downpours
- create a Rain Garden website based on the Vermont Rain Garden Manual
- man a booth at flower shows, sustainability fairs and seek new places to spread the word about conserving, protecting and enhancing our water resources.
The Volunteer Page has contact information and more details.

Annual Fundraising Campaign Now Underway
|
Our conservation and educational programs require valuable staff time, strong organizational support, and significant resources. We
receive a limited amount of annually appropriated funding from the VT Agency of Agriculture and primarily
seek project grants to implement our conservation programs. Therefore, we are launching our first Annual Capital Campaign to meet the financial needs of our programs and general operations. This campaign is divided into three phases. Each phase has it's own financial goal, timeline, and intended commmunity group supporters.
